Family and friends remember Frank as a dynamic individual whose presence was a beacon of inspiration and joy. Known for his charismatic personality and engaging storytelling, Frank was a central figure at many community gatherings, often recounting fascinating tales of Ireland’s past with a vividness that captivated his audience. His commitment to cultural preservation extended beyond his professional life into personal passions, including his role as a founder and chairperson of the Waterford Childcare Centre, where he was cherished for his dedication and warm, supportive nature.
Frank’s career was marked by his substantial contributions to cultural heritage and community engagement. As a leading figure in the Irish Chamber of Commerce, Frank spearheaded initiatives that bolstered local economies and supported small businesses. His tenure as CEO of both Waterford and Clonmel Chambers of Commerce was distinguished by visionary leadership and passionate advocacy for regional development. Frank’s commitment to preserving Irish history was evident in his authorship of notable works such as “The 5-Minute Bell,” chronicling the Waterford-Tramore railway, and “Goin’ to the Pictures,” which he co-authored, capturing the golden age of Irish cinema. Additionally, Frank was instrumental in the compilation of “On This Day” volumes, which celebrated Waterford’s rich history through daily anecdotes.
Late of Carrigeenlea, Cliff Road, Tramore, Co. Waterford, and formerly of Bishopstown, Co. Cork, Frank O’Donoghue passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday the 3rd of September 2024. He is predeceased by his beloved sisters, Ann and Joan.
Frank’s legacy of mentorship and community service, combined with his contributions to historical writing, leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His work not only enriched his community but also ensured that the cultural fabric of Ireland was celebrated and sustained for future generations.
The O’Donoghue family of Tramore is saddened to announce the passing of Frank O’Donoghue. Frank will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken wife Anna, and children, David, Stephen, Vincent, Gavin, Valerie and Shirley and doting medical carers. Frank was a loyal brother to Joan, Redmond, Peter and Ann. He was a devoted grandfather to James, Harry, Lily, Paddy, Heleena, Addis, Anna and Alex. He will be fondly remembered by his children’s partners, Claire, Ruth, Finn, Alem and Shane. He will be forever missed by all his relatives, extended family, wonderful neighbours and his many friends.

Frank will be reposing at Falconer’s Funeral Home, Riverstown, Tramore, Co. Waterford on Friday, the 6th of September, from 6pm to 8pm.

Frank’s Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday, the 7th of September, at 10 am at The Church of the Holy Cross, Tramore, Co. Waterford. Immediately after Frank will be laid to rest in St. Declan’s Cemetery. For those who wish to take part in Frank’s Requiem Mass remotely, please follow the link here.
Frank’s Funeral cortege will walk from Tramore Credit Union/ Lodges Corner (weather permitting) at approximately 09:40 to arrive for his Requiem Mass at 10 am. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, can be made to Waterford Hospice by using the link here.
